Key findings
The Advocate of the Principle of Equality, national equality body, commissioned a survey on discrimination in Slovenia in 2022. The survey measured perceptions and experiences of discrimination among general population in Slovenia. Amongst others, the survey findings show that 49 % strongly agreed or agreed that it was not right for an employer to refuse to hire a woman just because she wears a headscarf. According to 26 % of respondents, foreigners and poor people are most often target of discrimination, followed by women (23 % of respondents), same-sex persons (22 %), religious people (14 %), persons with different disabilities (13 %), Roma (9 %), migrants and dark-skinned people (8 %, respectively) ... refugees (6 %) ... Muslims (2 %). Among respondents who claimed that they were subject to discrimination in 12 months before the survey, 24 % stated that their social position was the reason, followed by education (18 %), health status (17 %), religion or beliefs (16 %), political beliefs (15 %) ... ethnic origin or race (8 %) ... nationality (4 %). The survey also showed that 75 % of the respondents were not aware of the existence of the Advocate of the Principle of Equality.
Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
Quantitative - survey (CATI and CAWI). The survey took place in September 2022.
Sample details and representativeness
Sampling frame - residents of Slovenia aged between 18 and 75 years. Number of respondents - 1,006 (51 % men and 49 % women), representative sample by gender, age, region and education.
