Key findings
The report points to the small size of the Muslim community in Poland, and the resulting little visibility. It underlines good practices of inter-faith cooperation with Muslim and Orthodox communities. It however also notes a negative media portrayal of Muslims in Polish media and incidents of Anti-Muslim hate speech, especially against their Muslim community leaders and in connection with terrorist attacks in other countries. The report links underreporting of anti-Muslim hatred to a reluctancy by the police to investigate such incidents.
Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
ECRI, an independent human rights monitoring body of the Council of Europe, monitors racism, discrimination, and intolerance in member states through five-year cycles. Its reports are based on documentary analyses, on-site visits and dialogue with national authorities. The sixth round focuses on effective equality, hate speech and violence, and integration, while addressing country-specific issues. Information is gathered from diverse sources rather than direct inquiries. Authorities can comment on drafts and request their views be appended.
