| General Penitentiary Law (Ley General Penitenciaria), Specific Prison Laws | Each prison has its own internal regulatory organization, but, as a general rule, inmates are outside their cells from 8 to 14 and from 16.30 to 21h. Those inmates placed in solitary confinement can spend three hours outside of the cell per day. Inmates have opportunity for at least one hour of exercise every day in the open air, weather permitting. Even those who are in closed regime can have at least 1 hour, but it always depend on the within each prison rules. Education is provided in all facilities and for all inmates. Penitentiary Employment and Job Training (Trabajo Penitenciario y Formación para el Empleo, TPFE in its Spanish acronym) is part of the Ministry of the Interior. All prison inmates have access to an academic education. |
