Legal instruments & key provisions

Legal instrument Key provision
Criminal Enforcement Act Section 3Execution of a sentence must be carried out with due consideration for both the completion of the sentence and the need to help or influence the convicted person to live a crime-free life. The Prison and Probation Service and the municipalities must draw up a plan of action for pre-trial detainees and post-trial inmates facing release. In collaboration with the Danish Prison and Probation Service, municipalities must ensure that there is an action plan focusing on preventing released inmates and detainees from being on the streets without housing, means of support or contact with public authorities. At least three months before the post-trial inmate is released from prison, a meeting is initiated by the Prison and Probation Service, with the attendance also of the inmate and the municipality.
