Legal instruments & key provisions

Legal instrument Key provision
Penal CodeIn terms of the provision of mental health treatment, psychologists provide occasional consultations in prison. No regular follow-up is possible. The treatments they provide are generally medications. In Spain, there are currently two Prison psychiatric Hospitals PPHS, one in Seville and another one in Alicante provinces. Due to the lack of places in these institutions, some inmates may be referred to general psychiatric hospitals or penitentiaries. Prison facilities are adapted to the needs of prisoners with disabilities. To facilitate an early detection of cases of inmates suffering different levels of disabilities or the assignment to departments or centres without architectural limitations, and its referral to specialized entities and the processing of official certificates, there are collaborations with disability-focused entities.
