| Prisons Regulations, Subsidiary Legislation 260.03 | From the beginning of a prisoner’s sentence, consideration must be given to the prisoner’s future and the assistance needed on and following his release. This must be considered in conjunction with the social welfare service authorities and any appropriate after-care organisation approved by the Minister. Social welfare services must be given reasonable access to the prison and the prisoners to make their contribution in preparing the prisoner for release and after-care arrangements. , prisoners are required to undertake useful work for not more than fifty hours per week in accordance with the treatment objectives of the prison regime and their training programme. Consideration will be given in accordance with the prisoners’ age, sex, fitness, and so far as practicable, their personal skills and wishes in relation to the type of work available at the prison. The work should be carried out under conditions comparable to similar work outside the prison. |
