Prison Rules 2007Each prisoner shall be entitled, while in prison, to the provision of healthcare of a preventative, curative and rehabilitative nature, that is, at least, of the same or a similar standard as that available to persons outside of prison who are the holders of a medical card.
Irish Prison Service: Healthcare StandardsAll prisoners are to be medically assessed upon reception into prison, which will involve a clinical assessment within the first 24 hours. Prisoners will be referred to external specialist services as clinically indicated. If emergency attendance at an external hospital is required, it will be “effected with appropriate urgency”.
