Key findings

The report provides information on discrimination experienced by Somalis inter alia in employment, as well as information on Somalis as victims of crime. For example 25,9 % of the Somalis interviewed had been harassed during the last 12 months and 12,4 % during the last 2-5 years. 96 % of them thought that they had been victim of harassment because of their ethnic origin. Moreover, 20,3 % of the interviewees had been assaulted or threatened during the last 12 months and 17,2 % during the last 2-5 years. 88 % of them thought that they had been assaulted because of their ethnic origin.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

The report is based on material collected for EU-MIDIS survey in Finland. The report provides statistical data drawn from the interviews conducted with Somalis near Helsinki metro in summer of 2008.

484 interviews with Somalis.
