Key findings

The CNCDH recommends ensuring without delay the respect of the fundamental rights of the migrants in Calais and in the Calais region. It recommends guaranteeing without delay effective access for migrants to water, sanitation, and medical care. There should in particular be funding provided to increase emergency accommodation capacity. It is no longer acceptable that the associations present on the ground are forced “to manage the shortage” with insufficient resources while fulfilling a role which is normally the responsibility of the State and the local authorities.
Many unaccompanied foreign minors wander around Calais yet they should systematically come under common law measures and be the subject of a protection measure.
