Key findings
In 2015, total number of 962 hate crimes were reported to the police. The majority of them (54%) were motivated by victim's nationality or ethnic origin. The greatest number of these crimes were commited against Muslims (173). Total number of hate crimes commited against Arabs and Muslims both in the Internet and in the reality has increased in 2015. The perpetrators are usually men at the age of 22-30, living in the big cities. One third of them had some previous criminal record.
Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
Team on the Protection of Human Rights (Zespół ds. Ochrony Praw Człowieka), which is operating within the police stucture collects monthly data on the hate crimes from all of the police stations. Then general report is prepared by the National Coordinator (Koordynator Krajowy). Report includes number of all hate crimes committed in Poland as well as other information such as motivation of the perpetrator, legal classification of the crime as well as demographic data of victims and perpetrators.
