Key findings

According to official figures provided by the Federal Government, 232 crimes were registed by the police as "hostile to Islam" from 1 January to 31 March 2020, 18 of the crimes were assaults against mosques, 10 persons were injured. Furthermore, 1 demonstration against "Germany’s Islamisation" that were allegdly influenced by right-wing extremists were counted by the domestic intelligence authorities. An update of the prior report on Anti-Muslim crime on the fourth quarter 2019 (German Bundestag, Printed Document 19/19328) shows: From 1 October to 31 December 2019, 203 crimes were registered by the police as „hostile to Islam“, 10 people were injured and 2 people were killed in the context of these crimes.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

Figures were drawn from the police crime statistics (Polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik) on "politically motivated crime" (politisch motivierte Kriminalität) which includes "hostile to Islam" (islamfeindlich) as a new category since January 2017.
