Key findings

The National Report concluded that there were 1,706 hate crimes and incidents cases recorded in 2019. It does not include a specific reference to Anti-Muslim hatred.
But it does registered 515 cases (30,19%) based on racism and xenophobia and the 66 cases (3,86%) based on religious beliefs or religious practices and the 596 cases (35%) based on ideology.
In comparison other grounds registered were: Anti-Semitism 5 cases (0,29%) and 26 cases (1,52%) based on People with Disabilities and 278 cases (16,29%) based on the Sexual orientation and gender identity.
In terms of methodology for the first time it included a differentiation between criminal offences and administrative offences. And for the first time all hate crimes committed through the internet, social networks or social media, and not only to "hate speech" as it was previously are under the heading “hate crimes committed through internet or the social networks”.

The data were obtained through the Crime Statistics System (statistical system of criminality (SEC)). For its computation takes into account the facts that have being acknowledge by the following police corps: Guardia Civil, the National Police, the independent police of the different autonomous communities (Ertzaintza and Mossos d'esquadra and Policía Foral de Navarra) as well as the Local Police groups. It was complemented with the "Survey on Experiences with Hate Crime Incidents", which was active from 15 March to 31 December 2017 on the website of the Ministry of the Interior. 191 participants participated: university studies (47.2%), Spanish nationality (75.9%), between the ages of 26 to 40 (38.7%), resident in the provinces of Madrid, Barcelona and Murcia, and with employment status as an employee (53.9%)
