Key findings

OSCAD is the observatory of the Italian Police on discriminations and hate crimes. Episodes of discriminations and hate crimes can be reported anonymously to OSCAD via e-mail: these reports do not necessarily result in a formal police report. OSCAD periodically releases data on reported incidents. In 2022, 416 episodes were reported to OSCAD, with a slight decrease compared to 2021 (475 episodes). 131 episodes concerned discriminations on grounds of race and ethnic group; 111 on grounds of religion (the report does not disaggregate by religion).

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

This is the periodical OSCAD reporting concerning the episodes of discriminations and hate crimes reported anonymously via their dedicated e-mail address. Reports can be filed by individuals, associations and public authorities.

Sample details and representativeness

426 episodes were reported to OSCAD via e-mail in 2022.
