Key findings
The article explores the identity struggles of second-generation Muslims in Czechia, who, despite being born and raised there, are often perceived as outsiders due to their ethnicity and religion. Many face anti-Muslim sentiments, especially online, and are stereotyped as incompatible with Czech culture. Public discourse often associates Muslims with terrorism and migration issues in Western Europe, reinforcing prejudice. These young people negotiate their Czech identity through education, cultural integration, and social participation but still encounter systemic exclusion and bias.
Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
Qualitative, interviews and participant observation
Sample details and representativeness
21 interviews with second-generation Muslims living in Czechia aged 16-21; social media analysis, participant observation (attending prayer spaces and mosques)
