Key findings

The various court rulings examined do not indicate a particular fear of Muslims or anything originating from other cultures, but rather a mistrust and even a recrimination for realizing that Muslims' assertion of their culture and customs in Spanish society indicates, for some, a limited desire to fit in with their new surroundings; for others, it may indicate the exercise of their right to religious freedom, which they enjoy because it is a fundamental right, just as members of other religions, atheists, or agnostics have and enjoy. It suggested that it would be preferable to look at new strategies to encourage harmonious coexistence without employers and employees giving up their distinct rights.
