Key findings
Origin and expectations placed on migration largely condition the importance given to experiences of discrimination in Spain. Racism hinders the integration of the Maghreb community and has a strong psychosocial impact on the people who suffer from it. Specific situations can be repaired, but real repair comes with prevention and structural change. Coping with racism is based on the perceived relationship between cost and benefit. Formal denunciation is the last option, for serious cases and to restore rights. Public denunciation can have positive effects, but it is not for everyone. Safe, fast and restorative reporting options need to be strengthened. It is necessary to continue to inform, raise awareness and facilitate contact with the services that deal with discrimination.
