Coalition of hope commits to human rights for all
Calls to action to counter the pressing human rights threats facing Europe were captured during Vienna’s Fundamental Rights Forum 2018. They emerged from the talents, ideas, and expertise shared by over 700 leading experts from around the world during the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights’ event.

Civil society under threat, Fundamental Rights Agency finds
In many parts of the EU, civil society is under threat, finds a new report by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Given the vital role civil society plays in upholding democratic processes and in promoting human rights, decision makers need to ensure the important work of civil society is not undermined through policy and legal changes and funding cuts.

New Chairperson of FRA’s Management Board takes office
The new Chairperson of the Management Board of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) Sirpa Rautio takes office on 13 July 2017. She was elected by the FRA Management Board at its 26th Meeting in May 2017. Filippo di Robilant from Italy was elected as FRA Executive Board member.

A decade of human rights protection: The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights turns 10
These are difficult times for human rights. To mark its 10th anniversary, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights is hosting a discussion to take stock of the human rights successes in the European Union over the last decade and at the same time consider the enormous challenges before us. Among the key speakers are Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and EU Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová.

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) will lead the Europe-wide network of EU Agencies in 2014, the year in which the EU landscape is changing. With the European Parliament elections in May and a new European Commission in the autumn, EU Agencies remain well placed to showcase the EU’s added value.

Combating antisemitism: more targeted measures needed
FRA is today presenting the first comparable figures on Jewish people’s experiences of antisemitic harassment, discrimination and hate crime in the EU. On 8 November, the eve of the anniversary of the anti-Jewish pogroms that took place 75 years ago, it needs to be acknowledged that while Member States have made sustained efforts to combat antisemitism, the phenomenon is still widespread.

FRA is on a good track, finds external evaluation
The Council Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP) discussed the results of FRA’s independent external evaluation on 9 July. The FRA Management Board’s recommendations resulting from this evaluation were also discussed. The Chairperson of the FRA Management Board, Maija Sakslin, and FRA Director, Morten Kjaerum, took part in the meeting.

EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) presents its Annual report
This year’s FRA annual report highlights challenges and achievements in the area of fundamental rights from across the EU. It also considers the impact of the current crisis on the rule of law, as well as what Member States are doing to ensure trust in their justice systems.
