The Executive Board is composed of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Management Board, two other members of the Management Board and one representative of the European Commission. The Management Board member appointed by the Council of Europe also participates in Executive Board meetings.
The Executive Board assists the Management Board in all matters such as preparing decisions. It also assists and advises the Director.
Decisions are adopted by simple majority.
Elections for a new Executive Board took place on 27 September 2012, after the two-and-a-half year term of office of the previous Executive Board had ended on 12 July 2012. Frauke Seidensticker, the Management Board member for Germany, was elected as one of the two non-ex officio members of the Executive Board. At the next Management Board meeting in December 2012, Hent-Raul Kalmo, the Management Board member for Estonia, was elected as the other non-ex officio Executive Board member.
