Helplines for victims

As part of the Victim Support Services project, FRA looked at the coverage and operation of helpline services for crime victims.

The seven aspects included in this table relate to:

  1. the availability of a telephone helpline for victims of crime;
  2. if the helpline caters to all victims of crime regardless of the nature of the offence rather than, for instance, victims of a particular type of crime, such as trafficking;
  3. whether the helpline operates around the clock and all days of the week - 24/7;
  4. if the helpline operates nationwide rather than a regional number with regional scope;
  5. if the helpline is funded and operated by the state;
  6. if the helpline is funded by the state but operated by a non-state actor.
  7. if the recommended EU-wide number 116006 is connected to the helpline.

Note: A tick in brackets shows that a Member State only partly covers the indicated aspect (1-7), for example, not fully funded by the state. Regarding question 1, a tick in brackets shows that a Member State has a generic support helpline but not specifically targeting victims of crime. The absence of a tick signifies that the aspect is not provided for; for example 116006 not in use.
