CEPS discusses how best to uphold the rule of law

The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) held its annual IdeasLab in Brussels on 4 and 5 March. The thinktank convened renowned experts and representatives from various sectors of society to debate EU affairs.

One session was dedicated to ‘Upholding and enforcing the rule of law in the EU’. It brought together the Council of Europe, the European Commission, FRA, civil society and academia.

The aim of the exchange was to facilitate a constructive discussion on how to make the EU’s current rule of law approach better and more effective. It also sought to challenge the prevailing ‘tunnel vision’ within this topic by focusing only on certain countries and looking at this principle in isolation instead of the broader values of Article 2.
