FRA EU funds report presented to European Parliament

FRA spoke at a session of the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development on 14 February. The Agency presented its report ‘EU funds-ensuring compliance with fundamental rights’ to the Committee.

The Committee’s Chair, welcomed the report, emphasising the importance of ensuring that no EU funds are spent in a manner that violates the Charter. He pointed to the Committee’s role in ensuring strong fundamental rights provisions in relevant EU legislation.

The report describes ways that Member States can improve the respect for fundamental rights when implementing EU funds by strengthening partnerships with national human rights institutions and civil society, building the capacity of national authorities and monitoring bodies and improving complaints mechanisms.

The Committee covers a wide range of EU funds in the Parliament, including the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund and European Social Fund Plus.
