Council of the EU Working Party addresses racism and antisemitism

FRA addressed the Council of the EU’s Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP) on 15 November in Brussels.

FRA’s presentation covered key findings from two recent FRA reports on antisemitism and racism: The overview of antisemitic incidents recorded in the EU in 2022 and the second edition of ‘Being Black in the EU – Experiences of people of African descent’.

The Working Party took stock of the most recent developments at the EU level and in Member States related to combating racism and hate crime. The session built on the efforts within the Council and the approach agreed during the Swedish Presidency of the Council. The approach calls for a regular exchange on antisemitism, racism, and other forms of hatred both at the technical and the political levels.
