Webinar explores migration-related implications of the situation in Afghanistan

FRA took part in an online roundtable exploring the EU’s response to the situation in Afghanistan and its migration-related implications.

The webinar discussed the EU’s role and expected contributions in light of the proposals under the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, as well as current responses from EU Member States.

The discussion also assessed to what extent the EU’s current response reflects the call for international solidarity and other policy commitments for facilitating legal pathways for refugees as envisaged in the UN Global Compact on Refugees.

FRA’s contribution focused on its recent work on external borders, non-refoulement and refugee protection, from the fundamental rights perspective.

The event was part of the ASILE research project. The Migration Policy Centre of the European University Institute and the CEPS co-organised the event. It took place on 17 September.

It brought together a group of high-level and long-standing policy makers and experts from international, EU and national bodies.
