The database looks at national standards across different areas. These include: the size of cells, sanitary conditions, solitary confinement, access to healthcare, protection from violence, young detainees and the time prisoners spend out of their cells.
In addition, users can find the latest case law from the European Court of Human Rights and the EU’s Court of Justice.
A new addition is national case law from over 110 cases across EU countries.
Not only that, but it also contains the latest reports from relevant monitoring bodies.
The database initially came out in 2019 together with the report on criminal detention conditions. This report compared existing rules and how these rules apply in practice.
