FRA Director, Michael O’Flaherty, will deliver a video message at the closing conference of the 2023 edition of the Human Rights go local Winter Academy.

He will highlight the strong commitment of cities for delivering on these rights to their inhabitants.

The high-level closing conference will discuss the results of this year’s academy. The academy looked at management concepts and instruments to govern cities through human rights objectives, particularly the human rights-based approach.

The conference takes place on 8 February.

The conference is part of the Winter Academy that brought together representatives from local governments, civil society, young professionals and academia to discuss what works in human rights at the local level. FRA also spoke at the academy on ensuring human rights are sustainably integrated into the daily work of cities and when delivering public services such as education, healthcare, housing, social support and more.

The Winter Academy is an inter-regional capacity-building event. Each year the International Centre for Human Rights at Local and Regional Levels, in cooperation with the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Province of Styria, the Municipality of Graz, the Austrian Federal Ministry of International and European Affairs and FRA organise the event.
