The Screening Regulation, part of the EU’s Pact on Migration and Asylum which entered into force on 12 June 2026, obliges Member States to establish Independent Monitoring Mechanisms. Frontex invited Member States’ practitioners to take stock of practices and challenges relating to the screening and to map further needs.
FRA outlined its guidance on Independent Monitoring Mechanisms, which is followed by a detailed monitoring methodology to aid the Monitors. FRA will further conduct research on preliminary medical and vulnerability checks during screening of third country nationals.
The workshop took place in Warsaw from 15 to 16 September.
