One focused on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of migration. It looked at the impact of the EU AI Act, including for migration practitioners, alongside safeguards in the AI Act which apply to migration-related use-cases.
The other event, held under the auspices of the EMN Return Expert Group, aimed at enhancing the understanding of alternatives to pre-removal detention in light of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. It explored how such alternatives can be effectively implemented through the existing and new EU legal framework governing returns. It did so through sharing of good practices and drawing on various stakeholders’, notably national authorities’, expertise and experience.
The network’s national contact points, Member State representatives, alongside representatives of the European Commission, EU Agencies, international organisations, and civil society attended both events.
Contributing to such events with FRA fundamental rights expertise forms part of the Agency’s broader work to support the rights-compliant implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. FRA is a member of the network.
