Civil society and the Fundamental Rights Platform

The Fundamental Rights Platform (FRP) is FRA’s channel for cooperation and information exchange with civil society organisations working on fundamental rights in the EU.

What is the Fundamental Rights Platform?

The Fundamental Rights Platform is FRA’s civil society cooperation channel.

FRA cooperates with civil society organisations from across the European Union and in States having observer status with FRA (North Macedonia, Serbia, Albania).

This cooperation is defined in Article 10 of the EU Regulation on FRA’s Founding Regulation.

The Platform’s Terms of Reference explain how this cooperation works.

A list of the organisations participating in the Fundamental Rights Platform can be found in the Downloads section below. If your organisation is not yet part of the Platform, please click here to register. If you have any questions, please e-mail frp@fra.europa.eu

What does the Platform do?

The Platform serves to:

  • Exchange information: FRA and the Platform consistently exchange information on their work and other relevant issues;
  • Provide FRA with thematic input and strategic advice: FRA seeks thematic input and strategic advice from the Platform organisations;
  • Connect organisations with FRA and among each other: FRA aims to foster connections with and among Platform organisations;
  • Provide FRA ‘Tools’ and resources to organisations: Some FRA materials and tools are of particular relevance for the functioning of civil society organisations.

Who can cooperate within the Platform?

A large variety of organisations involved in fundamental rights are invited to cooperate within the platform, such as non-governmental organisations; trade unions, employers’ organisations and other professional organisations; churches, religious, philosophical and non-confessional organisations; universities and other experts from international or European organisations. Platform organisations are welcome whether they work at the local, national, European or international level.

How to register an organisation in the Platform database?

Civil society organisations register themselves in the Platform database. Registration to the Platform database is free and not subject to any time constraints; any organisation is also free to deregister at any time. When they register in the database, organisations agree to fulfil the criteria listed in Article 2 of the Platform’s Terms of Reference. These include respecting and promoting fundamental rights, and refraining from any conduct going against the fundamental rights of any person or group of people. The Platform is not an ‘organisation’ or a body of FRA. There is no ’membership’.
