Council of the EU seminar on the implications of the EU Charter

On 22 November, the Council of the EU hosted a training session on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights for Justice and Home Affairs Councillors.

The focus was on the implications of the Charter for the EU legislator.

Representatives of the Council Legal Service, the European Commission, FRA and academia attended the event.

The Council’s Legal Service underlined the practical relevance of FRA tools such as Charterpedia. The presentation by a Czech expert on the use of the Charter at the national level stressed the very low levels of Charter use among national authorities.

To promote knowledge about the Charter also at national level, FRA developed a trainer’s manual, now also in Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Romanian and Spanish. New introductory video presentations on the Charter’s history and legal nature and on the Charter’s structure and content complement the agency’s many Charter tools.

The Czech Presidency of the EU Council, in cooperation with FRA, organised the event. It built on earlier training events co-organised by EU Presidencies and the FRA.
