Roma and Travellers in the EU - New Survey!

Roma and Travellers in the EU have more jobs and better housing than before, but poverty, discrimination and segregation remain widespread, shows a new survey from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).

What is it really like to be Roma in today's EU?

FRA asked over 10,000 Roma and travellers.

And the message is clear.

Discrimination and exclusion are still part of daily life.

For one in three Roma, discrimination is routine when job hunting, renting a home, or seeing a doctor. But less than 1 in 10 report discrimination to an equality body.

Job opportunities have improved, but many Roma families are still trapped in poverty, four times more likely to be poor than the rest of the population.

More Roma children go to early education now. But only one in three finish high school compared to four in five across Europe.

School segregation remains far too common and it deprivives children of future opportunities.

These results are a wake-up call.

EU countries must close the poverty gap, end segregation, and create more opportunities, especially for Roma youth and women. But action cannot wait if the EU is to meet its Roma inclusion targets by 2030.
