Addressing the prevention of violence against people with disabilities in institutions in Slovenia

On 2 June, FRA in partnership with Slovenian partners, held a meeting on preventing violence against people with disabilities in institutions. The partners included Slovenia’s Social Protection Institute, the Centre for Deinstitutionalisation, the Museum of Madness, the Advocacy Centre and the Slovenian Ombudswoman.

The dialogue focused on what already works well in preventing violence against people with disabilities in institutions in Slovenia. It also looked at the causes of violence against people with disabilities in institutions and how to move forward with concrete action.

FRA and its national research partner in Slovenia presented the main findings of our report 'Places of Care = Places of Safety? Violence against persons with disabilities in institutions'.

The dialogue that followed contributed to clarifying priorities and defining realistic next steps for moving forward in four key areas: regulation, advocacy, awareness raising and networking.
