Age assessments and guardianship for unaccompanied children

FRA joined discussions during the plenary session of the Council of Europe’s Steering Committee for child rights. The session covered the rights of children in migration.

During the meeting, members discussed and approved a set of nine principles on age assessment to be adopted as recommendation by the Council of Ministers. They also discussed and approved draft explanatory memorandum of the 2019 Council of Ministers Recommendation on guardianship for unaccompanied and separated migrant children.

Both documents will be forwarded for formal approval to the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.

The meeting ran from 1 to 3 February.
