AI and fundamental rights feature at European Scientific Legal Tech Summit

FRA gave a plenary address during the first European Legal Tech Summit. The summit took place on 23 May in Vienna.

It brought together experts from different fields to discuss the merits and challenges of technology developed or used for the application or enforcement of the law.

FRA’s contribution focused on access to an effective remedy, bringing in aspects from its various papers and reports. They covered discrimination and algorithms, facial recognition technology, artificial intelligence and fundamental rights and bias in algorithms.

FRA also referred to its ongoing projects on assessing high risk artificial intelligence and the digitalisation of justice.
