FRA joins European Annual Asylum and Migration Report discussions

FRA attended a meeting organised by the European Commission with EU Member States and relevant EU agencies to discuss the European Annual Asylum and Migration Report. This report is an important element of the European annual asylum and migration cycle, as established under the EU Pact for Migration and Asylum.

FRA highlighted some of the main fundamental rights challenges, such as not enough search and rescue capacity for migrants at sea, rights violations at borders and the lack of proper investigations, the need to respond to the instrumentalisation of migrants in line with fundamental rights, and the importance of strengthening guardianship for unaccompanied children.

The report will be published on 15 October. It is used as a basis for a European Commission Implementing Decision establishing a solidarity pool for EU Member States under migratory pressure.

The meeting took place on 26 September in Brussels.
