PANEL DEBATE – What’s next for fundamental rights in the EU? Outlook on EU strategic guidelines in the area of freedom, security and justice and the role of civil society 

This panel will outline what the different EU institutions aim to achieve in the medium- and long-term in the area of freedom, security and justice area in the EU. There will be a specific focus on the role and possible contribution of civil society, focusing on what works well, what are the obstacles to the effective involvement of civil society, and what else does civil society need to be able to contribute (more) successfully?

What are civil society concerns and contributions for making fundamental rights a reality in the area of freedom, security and justice?

Two rounds of six working groups each. The topics will be based on what meeting participants see as key challenges, as collected ahead of the meeting via an online survey.

Key questions:
- In this area, what gaps remain? What works well already?
- What priority actions/initiatives should be considered?
- What contributions could civil society offer in this area?
