FRA joins discussions on planned EU returns legislation

FRA was a speaker during a panel on the EU’s proposed new return regulation and the concept of ‘return hubs’ at the 25th Berlin Symposium on Refugee Protection. It focused on fundamental rights issues and limitations.

FRA also briefly presented its recent legal position paper on the planned return hubs. Other speakers of the panel included the European Commission and Amnesty International’s Brussels Office.

The annual conference brought together 400 experts. These included refugees, civil society and non-governmental organisations, and public authorities. It focused on the enforcement challenges of the 1951 Geneva Refugee Convention and related fundamental rights issues in Germany and in Europe more generally.

The Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin, in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency and several civil society organisations organised the event. It took place in Berlin from 23 to 24 June.
