Presenting the fundamental rights implications of the EU’s Migration Pact to Hungarian stakeholders

FRA delivered a presentation to Hungarian stakeholders on the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and its fundamental rights implications at a conference organised by UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Regional Representation for Central Europe in partnership with ELTE University of Budapest.

The ‘Beyond 75 Years: The Future of Refugee Protection in a Changing World’ event took place on 25 June in Budapest.

It celebrated the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Geneva Refugee Convention and looked ahead. It brought together some 80 participants, ranging from representatives of leading Hungarian civil society actors through national authorities, judges, diplomatic representations based in Budapest to academics, as well as FRA and UNHCR staff.

The key discussion areas included refugee protection in Europe today and the new legal framework set up by the Pact. It also covered the challenges and opportunities in Hungary and the role of the civil society organisations in this field (including temporary protection for those displaced from Ukraine), and the future directions for international protection.

The event allowed FRA to liaise with various Hungarian actors in the field of asylum, including representatives of national authorities. FRA participation.

The input was part of the Agency’s work supporting the fundamental rights-compliant implementation of the EU Pact at the national level.
