Exchange on newest national and European child rights developments at Council of Europe

From 2 to 3 June, FRA joined the Plenary Meeting of the Steering Committee (CDENF) that oversees the implementation of the Council of Europe’s Child Rights Strategy. FRA provided input to draft Recommendations and Guidelines in the areas of child participation, child-friendly justice, and integrated services for children.

In preparation of the new Strategy participants agreed on the need to give targeted attention to children in particular vulnerable situations with FRA referring to most recent findings on gender-based violence, Roma and Travellers as well as LGBTIQ people.

At a targeted thematic dialogue on social media on 4 June, FRA flagged its on-ongoing research on safeguarding children from illegal and harmful content online. It also drew attention to its findings about concerns in relation to children’s social media use and age limits provided by Eurobarometer survey respondents from 15 years of age.
