Fundamental rights assessment of high-risk AI

The report ‘Assessing high-risk artificial intelligence’ examines the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in five areas defined as high-risk under the AI Act: asylum, education, employment, law enforcement and public benefits. This video provides information about the findings of the report, underlining the need for a responsible use of AI which in turn earns public trust, fuels innovation and drives sustainable technological progress.

What if AI decided your future?

Artificial intelligence is already part of everyday life. It helps us learn, work, and take decisions faster.

But some AI systems influence decisions that can change people's lives, like who gets a job or social benefits.

These systems are called high-risk AI. And if they make mistakes, people can lose real opportunities or vital support.

So, how can we make sure AI has the right safeguards?

Europe's new AI act is a step forward, setting rules to make AI safer and more trustworthy.

And more work lies ahead with its implementation.

FRA calls on the EU and its Member States to define AI broadly to capture all possible risks, guide developers in assessing how AI affects people's rights and ensure independent oversight and control.

Protecting people's rights is the foundation for sustainable technological progress.

When AI is developed and used responsibly, it earns public trust, fuels innovation, and drives adoption. More respect for fundamental rights means more trust in AI.

And trustworthy AI means faster adoption and greater impact.
