Upholding fundamental rights in times of crises

The FRA Director joined the EU’s Justice Council in Luxembourg on 13 October.

He exchanged views on how to uphold fundamental rights in times of crises. He underlined the importance of a solid and resilient human rights infrastructure based on strong justice systems. This can address the impact of prevailing crises and emergencies efficiently and systematically.

He pointed to the importance of the EU’s Fundamental Rights Charter and the need for genuine commitment to nurture civic space, to protect human rights defenders and to adequately resource victim support services.

He also referred to the Agency's work on addressing the fundamental rights impact on the EU of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
