“Our surveys repeatedly show that LGBTI people are among the most vulnerable to victimisation and violence because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or sex characteristics,” says FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty. “As Europe opens its arms to people fleeing the war in Ukraine, we should also pay attention to displaced LGBTI people. As a Union of Equality, the EU values human rights, equality, diversity and respect for human dignity for everyone no matter who they are.”
FRA continues to collect data on the efforts in EU countries to support displaced people.
Examples across Europe show how European LGBTI communities, along with the wider public, are doing their best to provide protection and support.
Next year, FRA will launch the third wave of its EU LGBTIQ Survey. It will also provide data about the situation of LGBTI people displaced from Ukraine and now living in the EU.
