Asian regional human rights commission visited

FRA The human rights commission of the ten-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), visited FRA on 25 November for an exchange of practices.

The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), with an independent expert appointed by each of the Member States and experts from the secretariat in Jakarta, discussed a range of issues with FRA staff, including violence against women – on the international day devoted to its elimination.

Other topics were National Human Rights Institutions, the rights of the child, and criminal justice. The visit was linked to the human rights dialogue that the EU regularly has with ASEAN.

Later in the week, on 27 November, the dialogue between the EU and ASEAN took place in Brussels, with FRA participating.
