On 12 December, the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) convened a meeting with national Parliamentarians to discuss the situation of the rule of law in the EU.

Keynote speakers included Michael McGrath, the new EU Commissioner responsible for Democracy, Justice and the Rule of Law and Claire Bazy Malaurie, President of the Venice Commission. FRA presented its key findings in the area of civic space, underlined the key role of civil society organisations and an enabling civic space for the protection and promotion of the rule of law and pointed to the participatory national rule of law dialogues that it is co-organising with the European Commission.
