On 19 February, the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU invited FRA to the Council Working Party on Schengen Matters, where it provided input relating to fundamental rights to the discussion.

FRA has been contributing with its fundamental rights expertise to Schengen evaluations for over a decade; a task with is now codified in the Schengen Evaluation and Monitoring Regulation (EU)

In 2025, FRA participated as an observer to seven on-site missions covering border management or return.

FRA also supports the training of Schengen evaluators and provides annual fundamental rights risk analyses and information on fundamental rights issues in the EU Member States that are being evaluated.
