Combating racism and online hate
During a diplomatic dialogue for equality on 25 March, FRA Director, Sirpa Rautio, shares her views with the diplomatic community in Vienna on how to combat racism and online hate speech. The event was organised in cooperation with the Austrian civil society organization ZARA Civil Courage and Anti-Racism Work, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA), and the Dutch, Swedish, and Canadian embassies in Austria.

UN Disability Convention Committee reviews EU disability commitments
FRA took part in the second review of the EU’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD) to which the EU is a Party. FRA participated as a member of the EU level monitoring framework and supported the CRPD Committee with data and research on people with disabilities.

Remote biometric identification in law enforcement
FRA presented its ongoing project on remote biometric identification in law enforcement and the fundamental rights implications during an international conference on law enforcement technologies. The conference explored the regulatory framework of facial recognition technologies and the challenges posed by law enforcement authorities in deploying facial recognition.

Child protection in the EU has improved over the years, but significant gaps remain, finds a report from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Fragmented laws and policies, split responsibilities and limited resources are impediments to fully integrated child protection systems that safeguard children's rights.

On 11 and 12 March, FRA provided training on fundamental rights in connection with the use of biometrics. The training took place during an event organised by Frontex on vulnerabilities in automated border crossings at Milan airport.
