Gewalt gegen Frauen ist eine Verletzung der Grundrechte von Frauen hinsichtlich ihrer Würde, dem Zugang zur Justiz und der Gleichheit der Geschlechter. Eine von drei Frauen hat seit ihrem 15. Lebensjahr körperliche und/oder sexuelle Gewalt erfahren, einer von fünf Frauen wurde nachgestellt („gestalkt“), und jede zweite Frau war mit einer oder mehreren Formen der sexuellen Belästigung konfrontiert, um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen.

Παραδείγματος χάριν, μία στις τρεις γυναίκες έπεσε θύμα σωματικής και/ή σεξουαλικής βίας μετά την ηλικία των 15 ετών, μία στις πέντε γυναίκες έχει πέσει θύμα παρενοχλητικής παρακολούθησης, ενώ μία στις δύο γυναίκες έχει υποστεί μία ή περισσότερες μορφές σεξουαλικής παρενόχλησης.
