Why was the practice needed?

The main objective of the practice is to map the attitudes of inhabitants regarding culture, e. g. historical events (such as the Holocaust in Slovakia and the Velvet Revolution) or historical personalities. It also aims to map the attitudes of inhabitants towards their neighbours and national minorities and measure their support for multiculturalism.

How was it implemented?

A research sample was set up based on quota selection. Quotas were based on the 2011 Census (1,008 respondents). Questionnaires were completed in face-to-face interviews. Part of the questionnaire tackled issues such as attitudes towards other cultures, assimilation, and experiences of and cohabitation with people from different cultures (through questions such as enjoying foreign food or having family members abroad).

Outputs

  • Some of the questions and possible answers are included in the final report (available only in Slovak)
  • A culture in four acts (Kultúra v štyroch dejstvách) was published in 2019
  • No data on further use of the outcomes are available.
