Roma Survey 2024 – Technical Report

The Roma Survey 2024 and its predecessors describe discrimination and bias-motivated harassment and violence experienced by Roma and Travellers across Europe. The Survey provides data which policy makers can use to address these high-priority agenda issues and most importantly assess progress over time as regards equality and non-discrimination in key areas of life. This technical report provides a detailed overview of the survey methodology used by FRA when collecting the survey data.

Roma Survey 2024 - Technical Report

Overview

The survey measures how Roma and Travellers feel about their living conditions, their health and well-being, and the society they live in with a focus on their experiences of discriminatory treatment and awareness of their rights. The overall objectives of the survey are:

  • To collect comparable data with the general population in the EU27. There is lack of information about the countries’ actions in terms of improving the integration of Roma/Travellers in the society.
  • To populate core headline and secondary indicators for measuring progress in the implementation of the EU Roma framework
  • To enable analysis of trends over time.
  • To refine research methodologies for sampling and surveying hard-to-reach groups.

The survey outputs serve:

  • To support the EU and Member States in protecting, promoting and fulfilling the fundamental rights of Roma and Travellers.
  • To advise national governments on actions they can take to ensure inclusion and equal participation in society of Roma and Travellers through the implementation of a human rights-based approach (“HRBA”).
  • To promote dialogue with civil society, in order to raise public awareness of fundamental rights and actively disseminate information about its work.
