The survey measures how Roma and Travellers feel about their living conditions, their health and well-being, and the society they live in with a focus on their experiences of discriminatory treatment and awareness of their rights. The overall objectives of the survey are:
- To collect comparable data with the general population in the EU27. There is lack of information about the countries’ actions in terms of improving the integration of Roma/Travellers in the society.
- To populate core headline and secondary indicators for measuring progress in the implementation of the EU Roma framework.
- To enable analysis of trends over time.
- To refine research methodologies for sampling and surveying hard-to-reach groups.
The survey outputs serve:
- To support the EU and Member States in protecting, promoting and fulfilling the fundamental rights of Roma and Travellers.
- To advise national governments on actions they can take to ensure inclusion and equal participation in society of Roma and Travellers through the implementation of a human rights-based approach (“HRBA”).
- To promote dialogue with civil society, in order to raise public awareness of fundamental rights and actively disseminate information about its work.
