FRA has launched its annual consultation with civil society organisations about their civic space experiences. The survey is open to all civil society organisations working in an EU Member State at the EU level, as well as in Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia.
FRA took part in a meeting of the Fundamental Rights Guidance Board of the European Travel Identification and Authorisation System (ETIAS)on 14 and 15 April in Warsaw.
On 17 April, FRA gave a presentation on interviewer training methods based on the agency’s experiences of implementing large-scale data collection on violence against women. The presentation took place in an expert group meeting on interviewer training in violence against women surveys and modules, organised by the World Health Organization.
On 24 April, FRA will present the key findings and opinions of the report on ‘Violence and rights abuses against women from Ukraine’ during the meeting of the Council Working Party on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters (COPEN) in Brussels.
FRA participated in a plenary meeting of the Council of Europe’s Consultation Group on the Children of Ukraine in Strasbourg from 14 to 16 April. Council of Europe member states, the European Commission, the UN Refugee Agency and representatives of civil society attended the meeting.
On 20 April, FRA will contribute to a discussion in the Council Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens’ Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP), dedicated to ‘Strengthening Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIA) in law making at EU and national level’.
On 20 April, FRA and the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU will hold an expert seminar on Delivering on LGBTIQ rights at the Permanent Representation of Cyprus in Brussels.
The European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will hold a public hearing on the future of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters in the European Union.

FRA will speak at two events organised as part of the European Parliament’s Roma Week. One will focus on civil society monitoring of Roma inclusion.
FRA attended a concept note drafting meeting on 25 March in Prague under the EEA/Norway Grants Roma inclusion and empowerment programme for financial mechanism 2021-2028 in Czechia.
FRA joined the international ‘Discrimination against Roma people in Central and Eastern Europe’ research workshop, organised by the Budapest Institute.
On 1 April, the FRA Director Sirpa Rautio took part in the Rule of Law Seminar in Helsinki, organised by the Finnish Ministry of Justice. The focus was on the Venice Commission’s recent opinion on proposed amendments to the Constitution of Finland regarding the independence of the judiciary.
To support the upcoming implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, a new report from the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) presents selected lessons learnt from the Agency’s decade-long experience at the hotspots in Greece and Italy. The report highlights the necessary steps to ensure that screening, reception and asylum processes respect fundamental rights, protect vulnerable people and operate with transparency.
FRA will contribute to the Virtual OECD Government Foresight Community (GFC) Day 2026. It will take place on 14 April.
The Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU in Brussels hosted an event on 26 March to discuss the latest EU data on gender-based violence. FRA gave a presentation summarising the results of the EU survey on gender-based violence and selected opinions based on FRA and EIGE’s analysis.
FRA delivered a keynote lecture on the fundamental rights implications of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum for Hungarian administrative law judges at a judicial training event organised by the Hungarian Judicial Academy.
FRA and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) presented an overview of the findings and opinions from their joint report on the EU survey on gender-based violence to the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM).

Civil society organisations across the EU are facing growing pressure which undermines their ability to safeguard fundamental rights and contribute meaningfully to democratic life, highlights the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) in its latest civic space assessment. The findings are published as the EU begins implementing its first ever EU Civil Society Strategy, which aims to strengthen civil society engagement and ensure an open and safe civic space across the EU.
FRA took part in a shadow meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs concerning the proposal for a Regulation establishing support for asylum migration, and integration from 2028 to 2034 (AMI Regulation).
