Discussing the EU’s facilitation directive

On 19 November, FRA intervened in a closed event in Brussels on the EU’s facilitation directive, organised by the EU Office of the Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

FRA underlined the need to avoid penalising humanitarian actions and to support smuggled migrants and refugees who are victims of criminal acts. This would enable them to benefit from the safeguards of the EU’s Victims’ Rights Directive.

FRA also reminded the audience about the measures taken against civil society organisations deploying search and rescue vessels in the Central Mediterranean, as described in FRA’s annual updates and in its reports on civic space
